Department of History & Economic History
Welcome to the Department of History and Economic History at Manchester Metropolitan University. The department is one of the largest History departments in the north of England, and has over 20 permanent members of academic staff, as well as a number of honorary and visiting fellows and associate lecturers. The department has a reputation for high quality teaching and learning and for research excellence. We offer a variety of undergraduate programmes in History, as well as postgraduate courses in History (taught and by research) and Local and Regional History, and master's and PhD's by research. Our aim is to encourage excellence in the study of History.
The Department is based in the purpose-built Geoffrey Manton Building near Manchester city centre, the building provides some of the best facilities for Humanities teaching to be found anywhere in the country, including lecture theatres equipped with outstanding audio-visual equipment and impressive facilities for information technology.
