Welcome

Department of Politics & Philosophy

The Department of Politics and Philosophy has research and teaching strengths that centre on European politics and public policy and the European tradition of philosophy and political theory, with additional strengths in British politics and public policy, international politics and global governance. It offers specialist single honours degrees in Philosophy and in Politics. Two further specialist programmes have a strong vocational content: a four-year, full-time programme in Public Services which incorporates a year's work placement, and a part-time version of this route. The Department also offers part-time Certificate and Diploma courses in Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies.

The department is home to the Faculty MA Programme, and contributes an MA route European Philosophy. There is a strong commitment to research in both Politics and Philosophy that feeds into teaching, and also provides a supportive learning environment for research students in both disciplines.
